Research and development projects assessing the needs for adult education (head of the research project), long-term development of higher education, conceptualisation of adult education, women in education and work (head of the research project), "Can You Advocate Your Rights?" (PHARE Democracy project- head of the research project), Adult Education Master Plan, ETGACE – Education and Training for Governance and Active Citizenship in Europe (5th Framework of the EU – head of the research team in Slovenia), Second International Adult Literacy Survey (head of the research team), participation in adult education (head of the research project), lead of the project LLL2010 in Slovenia which was a part of the European research project (FW6) under the same acronym; PIAAC (2014);
Familiar with adult education in Europe and worldwide owing to her involvement in research projects and affiliations to various adult education bodies at the European level as well as through her involvement in the governing bodies of the global institutions (UNESCO Institute for Education – now UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning). Before entrusting it to another colleague, also responsible for the subproject 3 of the INCLUD-ED project (Strategies for Inclusion and Social Cohesion in Europe from Education) within FW6, dealing with Social and Educational Exclusion and Inclusion and Social Structure in a European knowledge based society. Apart from this her expertise covers educational system in Slovenia at all levels as well as formal and non-formal education, participation and active citizenship.
Other involvements Secretary general of the International League for Social Commitment in Adult Education, member of the European Society for the Research in the Education of Adults (she was also a member of the Steering Committee of the ESREA from 1997 to 1999), member of the Grundtvig Working Group of the European Commission, Co-convenor and one of the founders of the ESREA network on Policy Studies in Adult Education, president of the European Consortium of Research and Development Institutes in Adult Education, a rapporteur in CONFINTEA 5 1997, member of the Governing as well of the Steering Board of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, Hamburg, member of the Editorial Board of the International Review of Education, member of the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO. For three consecutive mandates (1998-2004) she was a member of the Executive Board of EAEA (European Association for the Education of Adults). She was also a member of various national bodies dealing with the policy of adult education in Slovenia.
